Stepping Up

Stepping Up

kids-jumping-off-of-dockI read in the early morning, a quiet time that fills me up.  And as promised, the words meet me in that place, every day.  Every time.  It’s like a perfectly orchestrated composition of music, each note necessary to the one behind it.  To the one in front. How the Musician knows what I need that day is a mystery but the music never stops.  It weaves itself into prayers and thoughts and ideas and hopes.  It encourages.  It makes me feel small. And big.  It’s an appointment with Greatness.

From Jeremiah of all books,

Do not say “I am only a child.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.  Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will rescue you.

I often times like to argue that I am just a child.  I can’t possibly do what I think I am being called to do.  Don’t we find that verse set on repeat in our minds?

You are a child.  (My child.)  You are engraved in the palms of my hands.  And I know what I AM doing.

That should be on a permanent loop.  Low and steady, almost like a heartbeat.

On my birthday morning, a gift of words from a faithful author:

I care as much about your tiny trust-steps through daily life as about your dramatic leaps of faith.  You may think that no one notices, but the One who is always beside you sees everything–and rejoices. Consistently trusting in Me is vital to flourishing in My Presence.         (Jesus Calling)

This new year will be filled with tiny steps as well as dramatic ones. That’s the way time works. We must get from here to there and it takes a certain number to get to the end.  Big or small.  Brave or timid.  Some where we dance.  Others where we need to be carried.  The Music will accompany them all.  Each one a faithful step up.
